GRADING, ATTENDANCE AND CLASS PARTICIPATION:

GRADING POLICY (A = 93-100, B = 85-92, C = 78-84, D = 70-77):

• 50 % - 6 Examens (+examen final = 2 examens), 7 interrogations (= 2 examens).
• 10 % - 5 Compositions et/ou Projets (= 2 examens).
• 40 % - Préparation et Participation (15 % en "drill" et 25% en classe):*

 Assignments and Class Preparation: Plan to spend a minimum of 2 hours per day in preparation for each day of class. For each class session: (1) review material from the previous class, completing all assignments ( including those in the Multi-Media Lab)! And (2) prepare for the next class day by studying those materials indicated on the "Emploi du Temps (Course schedule outline). Workbook and lab assignment completion will be checked regularly. Keep up on a daily basis with all assignments. Your signature on written work constitues your Honor Code Pledge. For special help your Professor may be reached during office hours and/or by appointment, by phone (287-6838) and by email at jpaulsen1@verizon.net.

 *Regular daily preparation and full participation are essential ingrediants for survival (!) and success in this intensive, immersion French 121 course. The full 40% of your Fr 121 preparation and participation grade may be earned if you can honestly make the following self-evaluation for each class and drill session:

• I prepared for the class/drill session by reviewing and completing assignments from the previous day (including Multi-Media Lab assignments!) and previewing new materials assigned on the "Emploi du Temps".
• I attended class and drill regularly and arrived on time.
• I greeted people and took leave using the appropriate French "formules de politesse".
• I worked on my comprehension by listening while others spoke.
• I participated in French in all activities with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
• I helped others to do all of the above, too, but respected the Honor Code by not allowing others to copy my work.

• I partially prepared for the class/drill session and used the Lab frequently..
• I used all "permitted absences" but otherwise regularly attended class and arrived on time.
• I greeted people and took leave using French expressions.
• Sometimes I didn't listen to others when they were talking.
• I spoke French in class/drill but also sometimes used English.
• I participated in most all of the activities, enthusiastically with most but less so with others.
• Most of the time I showed a positive attitude.
• Most of the time I made participating in class easier and more fun for others.

• I seldom prepared for the class/drill session and didn't use the Lab very often..
• I failed to attend more than the allotted 5 class/drill sessions. I frequently arrived late.
• I spoke more English than French in class/drill.
• I usually didn't listen when others spoke.
• My presence in the class/drill group didn't contribute much to the activity.
